Gilcrest House 01
Gilcrest Co., FL
We found this house while driving between springs in North Florida. I had to stop and photograph it.
While photographing it, someone stopped to see what we were doing. We went out to meet them and after telling them what we were doing, they told us a little about the house.
It was their recently deceased mother's house. It had been vandalized multiple times, so they were suspicious of us being on property. They gave us permission to continue shooting it.
What we found was these are really two houses attached together in the middle by the kitchen and bathroom. Since the house was built well before the time, they were able to add indoor plumbing to one central location to service the entire house.
While we couldn't enter the house, as it was completely sealed shut, we were able to take a few photos through the windows.
I enjoy all of the old style wiring, wood paneling, brick chimney, windows and doors of these types of locations. These are called "Florida Cracker homes", built by the first settlers in the area.
This is another home where the recliner was hanging around the front door.
