Georgia Quarry
A friend of mine had gained access to this location and after telling me what all was on the property, I had to go visit it.
This open pit mine was long ago closed and left abandoned. It appears to have been a lime rock quarry, usually used for road construction. At some point in time, the miners had cut through a cave system.
When we arrived we checked out the cave areas, but did not go in. Others were exploring the caves. They were tight belly crawl entrances and very sticky clay, not something we had planned to go into. The first few photos show the small cave openings.
After walking the mine area, we went back up to the equipment area to photograph.
I really enjoy large complexes like this as they can yield a lot of interesting things to photograph in one area.
We had a couple of hours at this location but had to go due to the sun quickly setting.
