Barber Homestead
Suwannee Co, FL
This 76 acre farm was spotted on the way to one of our cave dive sites. We decided to skip the dive that day and just photograph this amazing home.
The old junk left inside was a nice find. Old doorknobs, furniture, vintage beer cans and more were an exciting find.
This home was owned by Renzo Barber (1909-1999). The Barber's appear to have a rich history in Florida. I will need to do further research on this site for the full story.
An hour or two of research did not net me who owned the land previously, or what it was used for. It could have just been a typical homestead farm.
Renzo's father, Moses Barber (1886-1964), was also buried in the same cemetery as son.
The land has a record showing that Renzo sold it to a land investment company in 1987. The land was again sold in 2015 to a holdings company.
There are records from 1980 from the power company stating they have easement rights, of which there are power poles running along the perimeter of the property. There is also an interesting record, also from 1980, from the railroad stating that they still had easement rights, dating back to 1882. Meanwhile, there's no railroad anywhere even remotely close to this property.
